3W Fire and Equipment Company is located in Escondido, California.
The new Rapid Response Fire Engine was completed in time for the 2010 World Fire Show in San Diego, California. The show ran in the first week of February. Left the Rapid Response Type 3 Fire Engine is loaded for transport to San Diego.
Light Weight: This new Type 3 Engine is designed to be light weight. Extensive use of aluminum and the light weight Steyr Mono-block engine allow this engine to weight in below 19,000 gvw fueled and loaded.
Durable: Stainless steel and aluminum materials were used for long life and low maintenance. The Dodge chassis was selected to meet the new California air control standards for several years to come. This fire engine should serve your community for a long time.
Breaking: This Dodge 5500 chassis has the largest disc brakes of any commercially available chassis in its category. Plus it comes with a factory Exhaust Brake rated at up to 330 hp for some engines. The Exhaust Break allows reliable breaking in California mountain highways. The disc brakes are designed to handle the fully loaded truck. The large factory brakes make for good off road control.
Chassis: 50,000 psi commercial grade steel frame rails provide a solid foundation for this fire apparatus. A 52 gallon/196 liter fuel tank is the largest standard fuel tank in its class. The apparatus is equipped with a 6 speed transmission with Pump & Roll PT. A 4x4 drive train, light weight, and small size makes this an ideal brush truck. The 7'-6" Clearance makes it an excellent fire apparatus for parking structure vehicle fires.
Custom Truck Bed: This custom fire engine/apparatus bed is aluminum construction. A combination of polished diamond plate and smooth painted aluminum make a striking appearance. Apparatus you can be proud of, we are. We gained our experience in aluminum custom bed construction running our older sister company 3W Truck and Equipment. Check out some of our other truck beds there.
This fire apparatus bed uses ROM Rollup doors. Other styles are optional. Each compartment has rope-lighting. Magnetic proximity switches activate lights. Shelves are adjustable.
The apparatus bed has several hose lays. This multi-application apparatus carries 1,000ft of 1-1/2in and 400ft of 2-1/2in line. Also, 20ft of of 4" TFT Hard Suction line.
Power: The engine is a Cummings 6.7L Variable Geometry Turbo Diesel. It uses a close coupled catalyst and NOx absorber technology with a particle filtering system to exceed 2010 clean air standards. The On Board Diagnostics (OBD) provides diagnostic information to allow the engine to be kept within clean air standards. The engine is designed for the use of Biodiesel. Parts are available 24x7 from QuickServe.Cummings.com. The Cummings engines deliver exceptional power to weight ratios.
Pump Power: A Steyr mono-block light weight (396lb/180kg) engine was selected to drive the pump at full capacity. The engine is far lighter than other Type 3 pump engines. A self-bleeding two stage injection system is used. Providing easy injection system priming and quieter operation. Currently used in aviation, marine, and military applications Steyr engines are our choice for strong, durable, light weight, and reliable engines. The engine, with power to spare, can be equipped with an optional variety of generators to run additional lighting and other equipment as well as the pump.
Pump: Waterious™ CPK 3 two stage pump was our choice for this fire apparatus. Capable of a maximum flow of 500gpm/1900lpm @ 150 psi/10bar or a maximum pressure of 60gpm/3lpm @ 800psi/55bar this pump is ideal for wildland and urban fire fighting. Waterious pumps exceed National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards for fire fighting. Waterious is pushing the limit on durability, light weight, compact size, reliability, low maintenance, easy operation, and a five year Waterious factory warranty. Additionally, the pump has the ability to pump foam and compressed foam, an additional add-on option easily added. This fire apparatus is equipped with gel capability and additional get concentrate tanks.
Water Cannon: The front mounted quick-disconnect TFT Tornado RC Water cannon has three controls. One, a handheld wireless control, two, an on cannon control, and the in-cab control available to the captain and engineer.
The cannon has a programmable oscillation and automated return to a stored position, also programmable.
Built with a 2.5" waterway and only 19PSI pressure loss at 500 gpm/1,900 lpm. Built with field changeable elevation stops. Drive electronics are water proof. Made with hardcoat anodized aluminum. Several optional nozzles are available for flows from 10 gpm to 500 gpm. All nozzles are remote controllable.
Ladder Lift: Equipped with a curb-side ladder lift. Electric control of of a hydraulic ram controls the lift. A simple well machined mechanical mechanism working from one ram provides quick easy storage and availability. Computer design and machining made this compact, light weight, lift arm. Unquiet in the field.
Storage: The apparatus has 8 enclosed storage compartments. ROM rollup doors are used as well as pivot doors. All are highly water resistant.
Hoses: 1,000ft of 1-1/2in and 400ft of 2-1/2in line. Also, 20ft of of 4" TFT Hard Suction line.
Backup Camera: To provide rearview for backing and traffic a color camera is used. Mounted at eye level in a protected location in the rear panels. A 3.5 in color flat panel monitor is used in place of a rearview mirror.
Megacab: A custom cab provides additional passenger space for 3 fire fighters and equipment. The rear doors open a full 90 degrees to allow fully equipped fire fighters easy entry. The rear seats accommodate most SCBA tanks.
Communications: The captain and engineer are provided AVComm International FREEDOM Wireless™ Blue Tooth Headsets with a 500 ft/152m, depending on conditions. The Bluetooth sets have 'pairing' memory and do NOT have to be reconnected at each power up. The base antennas are located in protect locations safe from brush and other obstacles. Fire fighters are provide 3 AVComm headset radios. All have in-cab charging and intercomm connections. AVComm headsets use patented noise reduction technology. All radio and communication gear is optional. Engines can be equipped to meet any fire department's requirements.
